NOA Clarifies Use of National Anthem, Dispels Rumors
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has dismissed reports that citizens need permission to use the national anthem. The agency's Director-General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, clarified that NOA will issue correct melodies of the national anthem and promote its usage. However, those producing national flags or using them for commercial purposes should obtain correct versions from NOA.
The agency is undertaking programs to enlighten Nigerians on the lyrics of the reintroduced national anthem. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has prescribed that the first stanza be sung at official government programs, while the entire three stanzas be used at special events.
NOA has released the correct lyrics, which are:
Stanza 1:
Nigeria, we hail thee
Our own dear native land
Though tribes and tongues may differ
In brotherhood, we stand
Nigerians all, are proud to serve
Our sovereign Motherland.
Stanza 2:
Our flag shall be a symbol
That truth and justice reign
In peace or battle, honour’d,
And this we count as gain,
To hand on to our children
A banner without stain.
Stanza 3:
O God of all creation
Grant this our one request.
Help us to build a nation
Where no man is oppressed
And so with peace and plenty
Nigeria may be blessed.
NOA encourages citizens to ignore misleading reports and freely use the national anthem while respecting and honoring national symbols.
