OSUN STATE MAP GBV ACTION COMMITTEE ON GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE PREVENTION Road Walk/Rally

On December 10th, 2024, in commemoration of International Human Rights Day, the Osun State MAP GBV Action Committee on Gender-Based Violence Prevention embarked on a  road walk and rally aimed at raising awareness on the dangers of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and promoting the need for its prevention in Osun State.

The event began at Freedom Park and saw a united group of passionate advocates, survivors, and members of the community marching through significant locations in Osogbo. The procession made its way from Freedom Park, through Orisunbare Market, and continued to Olaiya, before finally reaching the grand finale at Alekuwodo. Along the route, the rally was marked by enthusiastic chants, banner, and speeches calling for an end to all forms of abuse, harassment, and violence based on gender.

The event served not only as a demonstration of solidarity with survivors of GBV but also as an important step towards educating the public on the importance of protecting human rights, gender equality, and the well-being of all members of society. The rally was a reminder that GBV, in any form, is unacceptable, and that collective efforts are necessary to combat this pervasive issue.

In her speech,Mrs Nneka Anigbo, emphasized the crucial role of every individual in the fight against GBV and called for stronger support systems and laws to protect the rights of victims. Participants were also urged to report any cases of abuse, support survivors, and work towards a society where every individual can live free from violence and discrimination.

The rally culminated in a gathering at Alekuwodo, where key stakeholders, including members of the government, civil society, and local leaders, reaffirmed their commitment to ending GBV and ensuring that human rights are respected and upheld for all.

The MAP GBV Action Committee’s initiative, made possible by the generous funding of ActionAid, marks a significant step forward in the ongoing battle against Gender-Based Violence in Osun State. The event was a clear call to action for all to stand together and create a safer, more equitable society.

As the fight against GBV continues, the Committee remains dedicated to further sensitizing the public, advocating for policy changes, and providing support for survivors. The journey to ending GBV is ongoing, but with collective efforts, it is a battle that can be won.
