IGP EGBETOKUN ACCUSED OF PLOTTING TO DESTABILIZE OSUN STATE

The Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, of attempting to destabilize the state. In a press conference held in Osogbo, the state capital, Hon Sunday Bisi, Chairman of the Osun State PDP, alleged that Egbetokun is working in conjunction with the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) to orchestrate violence in the state.
Bisi claimed that Egbetokun's actions are part of a larger plan to assassinate Governor Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke. He also stated that the Governor has been interfacing with Egbetokun to ensure peace in the state after a fatal clash on Monday.

The PDP chairman warned that the APC's desperation to regain power in Osun State has led to a rise in violence and intimidation. He urged the public not to succumb to the APC's tactics and assured that the local government election scheduled for February 22, 2025, will hold as planned.

Bisi commended the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) for following the law in its preparations for the election. He also referenced court judgments, including a Federal High Court ruling on November 30, 2022, and a Supreme Court judgment on July 11, 2024, which validated the existence of 30 local governments in Osun State.

The crisis in Osun State began after the APC was voted out of office in 2022. Since then, the party has been trying to regain power through various means, including violence and intimidation. The PDP has accused the APC of trying to sabotage the upcoming local government election.

Bisi alleged that Egbetokun's deliberate deployment of Special Forces under him to escort some miscreants into the local government councils in the state was nothing but a blatant coup. He also stated that the Governor's instruction to restore peace and order as the Chief Security Officer of Osun State was flagrantly violated by Egbetokun.

The PDP chairman warned that the world must hold the Inspector General of Police accountable in the event of any ugly eventualities in Osun State. He also stated that the APC's failure to fault the process of the local government election as it abides by all extant laws in the land motivated the despicable lawlessness it is currently perpetrating in Osun State.

The Osun State PDP has called on the public to remain calm and law-abiding, despite the APC's attempts to cause chaos and confusion. The party has also assured that it will do everything in its power to ensure that the local government election holds as scheduled.
