RWPI DRIVES WOMEN'S POLITICAL EMPOWERMENT IN OSUN STATE
The Radiant Women Progressive Initiative (RWPI), a women-focused advocacy group, has intensified efforts to mobilise and empower women across Osun State to take active roles in governance and decision-making.
Founded in 2010 by Ola Olabisi, the organisation has expanded its presence to all 30 local government areas and area office of the state, positioning itself as a key grassroots platform for women’s political engagement.
Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, Olabisi said the group was established to address the persistent marginalisation of women in leadership structures. “Women are the largest numbers of people on the planet, yet they remain largely excluded from positions where critical decisions are made,” he said.
RWPI adopts a community-based approach, focusing on relationship-building and continuous engagement to encourage women to participate in civic and political processes. The organisation acknowledges that cultural barriers and low political inclusion have posed challenges but noted that steady progress is being recorded.
With election drawing near in Osun State, the group has scaled up voter education campaigns and advocacy programmes aimed at increasing women’s participation at the polls.
The initiative is also providing support and mentorship for women aspiring to contest elective positions. Residents in several local councils report growing awareness among women about their rights and responsibilities in governance, with increased turnout at community meetings and political sensitisation forums.
Oṣùn State coordinator, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Esther, expressed confidence that sustained advocacy and grassroots mobilisation would translate into greater female representation in leadership. “The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring women in Osun State are not only voters but active stakeholders in shaping policies and governance outcomes, we moved around Ã’sogbo to remind women of their rights and reasons they should get their PVC and votes during election period. ” she said.
By empowering women, RWPI is contributing to a more inclusive and representative democracy.
