The Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency in Osun State has long been a crucial political battleground, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) currently holding sway.

However, a pressing issue that requires urgent attention is the need for a rotational system in the House of Representatives seat, particularly within the ruling PDP, to ensure inclusivity, unity, and balanced development.

Since Nigeria's return to democracy in 1999, several individuals have held the House of Representatives seat for this constituency. The list includes:

- Isiaq A. Aliyu (1999–2003)

- Ayinde G. Muftao (2003–2007)

- Falade Ajibade Michael (2007–2011)

- Ajagbe Adetunji Tajudeen (2011–2015)

- Alabi Mojeed (2015–2019)

- Bamidele Salam (2019–present)

Each of these representatives has made significant contributions to the growth and development of the constituency. However, it is evident that some local governments have been more favored in terms of political opportunities, highlighting the need for a more structured system of rotation to foster inclusivity.

Over the years, the constituency has witnessed intense political competition between major political parties. In recent elections, the PDP has gained dominance. In 2019, Bamidele Salam secured a major victory for the party, and he was re-elected in 2023, further solidifying the PDP's influence in the area.

Despite this dominance, internal wrangling and dissatisfaction have surfaced among party members from different local governments. Many believe that, historically, every representative has served only one term before making way for aspirants from other councils within the constituency.

A rotational system will undoubtedly provide a lasting solution to these party disputes by ensuring that power is evenly distributed across the four local governments. Implementing such a system for the House of Representatives seat would bring numerous advantages.

Firstly, it would ensure equitable development, as each local government would have the opportunity to produce a representative, thereby guaranteeing that developmental projects are evenly distributed across the constituency.

Thirdly, it would increase electoral success, as fostering inclusivity would allow the PDP to maintain a more united front, making it easier to secure victories in future elections with less internal opposition and conflict.

Finally, a rotational system would enhance governance and leadership growth by allowing new leaders to emerge, strengthening the political structure, and ensuring that a diverse pool of talent is developed for future governance.

As Osun State Governor, Senator Nurudeen Jackson Ademola Adeleke, the Asiwaju of Ede land stands to gain significantly from the adoption of a rotational system in this federal constituency. By promoting fairness and unity within the PDP, his chances of securing a second term would be greatly enhanced.

The governor has already demonstrated a commitment to inclusive governance, and implementing a rotational representation model would further boost his credibility among voters.

The call for rotational representation in the Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency is not just about political fairness; it is about fostering unity, ensuring balanced development, and securing electoral victories with minimal internal conflict.
