NHRC Visits UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital to Strengthen SGBV Response in Osun State
As part of activities marking the 2024 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the Osun State Office of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), led by the State Coordinator, Mrs Nneka Anigbo, paid an advocacy visit to Dr. Babatunde Ademola Afolabi, the Chief Medical Director of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital on Wednesday, 4 December, 2024.
The visit underscored the critical role of the health sector in providing essential services for survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). During the engagement, the NHRC reiterated the importance of health institutions as first responders in most cases of SGBV and called for enhanced collaboration to ensure victims receive timely and professional care.
In his remarks, Dr. Afolabi expressed his commitment to combating SGBV in the state. He pledged to ensure that hospitals and health centers under his administration handle SGBV cases with the utmost professionalism and diligence.
Dr. Afolabi further revealed his readiness to partner with the NHRC to train health workers on best practices in responding to survivors of SGBV, ensuring that they provide sensitive and survivor-centered care.
